Budapest is home to many SkyBars’, and with the capital’s breathtaking architecture, is it easy to understand why this special type of bar is in high demand. But do the SkyBars’ live up to the hype? – read about our experience at one of Budapest’s most central SkyBars’.
SkyBars’ always deliver a special experience, whether it is the view, the atmosphere, or the drinks, SkyBars’ are just something else. So, expectations are always high when visiting one! After our visit to the exclusive rooftop bar, The Duchess, our expectations were maybe a bit too high. You can read about our experience at The Duchess at our blog page. This time, we visited St. Andrea Wine & Skybar, and we were excited. We had a reservation, was dressed in our fanciest cloths, - it was going to be a good night. We took the elevator up and was followed to our table. The table we were shown to was placed furthest in the back of the bar. The table was placed next to an open kitchen section where staff was preparing food. You defiantly got all the smells from the kitchen at our table, and depending on your preference, this can be good or bad. Some of the equipment in the open kitchen made loud beeping noises when food was left unattended for too long, which happened quite often during our stay. Also, was our table placed next to a door leading to the outside area. This might have been perfect for summer, but when in December and with a lot of the other bargoers using the door to get in-and-out for smoking, can it become a quite chilly experience. No matter – the night most go on! Quickly after arriving, we ordered some drinks. The selection of drinks was lackluster, but unique. All drinks from the drinks card were unique to the bar, so it was a bit of a gamble when ordering. We were excited to try some new drinks, and our excitement kept being build up since we had to wait for a long time before receiving our liquid refreshments. In fact, we waited for so long that the staff apologized multiple times during the wait. The staff then asked if we would like some dessert on the house for compensation for the long wait. A nice gesture indeed! However, did we receive one small plate of dessert, a bit tricky for a party of five. For some of the drinks, the wait turned out not to be worthwhile, as some tasted like pure liquor.
When visiting a Skybar, the view is one of the most anticipated elements. As it turned out, the view from St. Andrea Wine & Skybar was disappointing. The view mostly consisted of the bare side of the neighboring building. When at one of the most central places in Budapest, you could dream for more of a view.
When all comes to it, the entire experience at St. Andrea Wine & Skybar was underwhelming. Maybe we had to high expectations, maybe we were unlucky. If you plan to visit St. Andrea Wine & Skybar we would love to hear about your experiences!
