After we visited the bar Csendes Letterem, a bar we have made a blog post about previously, we decided that instead of going home, it was time for some singing! This was on a Thursday around midnight, so the options were quite limited. We found a karaoke bar called Hashtag BAR and what a nice place it was! The bar is located in the 7th district on the street Dohány. Fun fact: Dohány utca actually means tobacco street and is named after a tobacco maker in the early 1800’s.
The BAR is not the biggest but is divided in two floors with seating on both floors, entrance and bar at ground floor, and karaoke area and toilet on the 2nd floor. It is obvious when you arrive that it is not an expensive place just by the way it looks. The place is a little run down with worn furniture and some wires sticking out through a hole in the floor along the window, not really a big deal. When we arrived, there were not too many people so finding a place to sit was no problem. The people that were there however, were having a great time in the karaoke area singing in both Hungarian and English and were a mix of both young and older people. Some people were dressed up for a casual night out and others that clearly didn’t care about their outfit making the place accessible for everyone. The drinks menu was very generic and nothing special, but the things you would expect to be there was there. The lady in the bar was very friendly and helpful at explaining what some of the drinks were made of, and she certainly knew how to make a good Long Island Ice Tea!
Overall, the atmosphere was very good and even though we didn’t get to stand at the stage and sing a song we chose ourselves, we still got to sing along to some English and Hungarian (at least we tried to) songs from where we were sitting, close to the action. We certainly had a good time there and would recommend Hashtag BAR if you are looking for an unformal friendly place to have some drinks, and maybe even to sing a song if you are up for it! We can assure you that no one will judge your singing or your outfit at this place. ;)
