This blog post is about the local bar Csendes Letterem. We got this bar recommended by a local girl, Eszti, from Budapest. She said that if we wanted to go to a place where the locals also go we should try this place. And it was definitely worth it. Csendes Letterem is a vintage place or as they call it here in Budapest a ruin bar. Already outside the bar different lights was hanging on the wall and lights in the windows made it look inviting. When we entered the bar a lot of different stuff was catching our eyes. Everything from stickers and posters on the wall to an old bike hanging down from the ceiling and even more lights this time blinking in different colors. We just stood there in the middle of the room and looked stunned around to let our eyes catch up with everything happening in the room. It was just impressive with all the artifacts, different aspects and atmosphere. Tt made the bar seem unformal and cool. We found a table near the wall with a lamp containing of old toys and a painting of a woman. Not long after we sat down one of the waiters came with the drink menu. She was really polite and smiling. Actually, all waiters were, and they just fitted into the surroundings with their style. They were all wearing retro cloths and one waiter was wearing an undershirt, so you could see his tattoos.
Back to the drink menu, you could get all the usually good drinks, beers and wine. We got three different drinks that all were a good mix of alcohol and mixers. While we drank our drinks, we took in the atmosphere. As Ezsti had told us a lot of local people were there. You could see it was a place both friends, dates and couples visited. A good mix of every kind of person. It is actually a really good place for a date because you feel comfortable in the unformal environment.
We definitely recommend Csendes Letterem a visit if you want the true local feeling of Budapest and want to visit a ruin bar.
The lamp containing of old toys.
The painting of a woman.
The drinks we had were Moscow Mule, Malfy Arancia Fizz and Plymouth Sloe gin fizz.
There where a lot of graffiti on the walls, but I am not sure whether it is possible to write something yourself. But it seems like a lot of different handwritings. Ask the staff if you think it could be fun.
There is really a lot of stuff to look at, so you can to go there yourself.
